That's right

Image
So I have been away from blogging - that's because of spending time in hospital and resting due to dengue. First time ever admitted to hospital and a reminder not to take health for granted. Caught it during Chinese New Year and before I knew it, one month has passed. Which is not a bad thing but now it's about catching up with life and work. Plenty has happened and then nothing as well. Been reading alot and such. Cooked, played with puppies and grew white hair on my beard. Such is life. I will be going to Thailand next week for a week or so and then swing to Japan by end of the month. Exciting times ahead.

Alive in many ways

Image
So I have been quite busy and away - the painful part is that I can't leave my job early enough to escape a month or two of torture which entails a pitch for the current account that I am working on. That's the thing about advertising and big account, every 3-5 years there will be mandatory pitches or in other industry they called it tender to ensure fair play. The good thing about knowing that you won't stay long enough is that whatever the results, it doesn't bother you at all. Not to be selfish, I know that many people are counting on this and heads will roll if we were to lose this account. All said and done, I still gave my very best and hope that everything will be ok. After all, we endured weekends after weekends and coming back to work on two consecutive public holidays. On a much brighter note, everything will be over by today and there's the Chinese New Year holiday around the corner to pig out and rest. Also, my iPad Air is finally here and I've b...

I don't need to watch The Secret Life of Walter Mitty to have that life

Image
Typically unimpressed with anything, I watched the trailer for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty just to find out what's with the marketing buzz and to me it was all fuss and nothing else. Sure, the scenes look great and I am sure there will be some funny moments here and there but I am surprised that people are still impressed with the same good old Americana movie formula: Loser + Pining for love + suddenly something happened = life changing experience / chance of a lifetime = happiness. Now didn't you watch that before somewhere? Yes, plenty of times. But it never gets old for some people. And what better time to release it than year end/new year when people only review how terminally boring their life is only to revert back to doing the same thing all over again come February. Of course it will resonate with people. Kar-ching! I only have one thing to say - Stop dreaming, stop watching another movie and put those money to good use or to support your dreams. Photo cr...

Deception

If you have not heard of the term Catfish, I suggest that you check it out. To be honest, it's not really a term but rather a title of a movie and then an MTV series highlighting online relationships that are usually not what it seems. Some are honest, mainly there's fabrication. I am not talking about any form of relationship, I have none at this point but recently someone tried and reach out to me. I won't go into the details because I don't want anyone copying it and I don't mention how I found out about this deception in case someone learning from it and try to sharpen their skills. Whatever it is - instinct - there's the feeling that something is not right from the beginning have been bugging me and that is what I learnt from this. Always trust them. The other lesson is about how these people would use your biggest weaknesses to try and play on it - if it's vanity, they will say you look great and cute or if you are desperately lonely, they will off...

Messy

Image
Life is messy right now with work and everything being shitty. What do you do? Run to your man and play with him? That would be nice if you have one. But even that also I am too tired to be bothered. I just want to go away.

Moving on without you

Image
As I look back at the six years that I will/have been spending at this agency, it amazes me how much things has changed. Of course things cannot remain the same - nothing is constant no? But to think that this is my longest stint at one place since primary school is pretty amazing. I have not been at any one place longer than that. Maybe it's some sort of achievement but at the same time, you see people moving on and moving forward and you can't help but to think what's up is it then with me? Over the years, I have toyed with the idea of getting myself somewhere before I move on - after all there is a lot left from the good fight and I can still go on fighting. Along the way I realised that while I have achieved some stuff that I want in life, many of those things are not needed and merely served as smoke screen to cover up the  fact that I am not truly fulfilled as an individual. There is always something missing and work managed to just do so much. I switched my focus t...

Coming clean about things

Image
For the past one year since my return from India I have been plotting and thinking and truth to be told that while I was supposed to save up as much as I can muster, I haven't been doing it properly. Since then, there was yet another a bag (or two or three or four) and also some trips in between which are great. Sometimes you just can't plan for things that just happened like trips. I don't regret taking them as anything and any place new is a plus. But to be honest, I have not been doing it properly. And I sometimes get carried away with how things are - I didn't expect all my plans to fall flat on my face, one after another and last weekend was the last straw. I just felt so tired for trying and boy, I have been trying even though I know chances of making things happen are next to zero. I nearly want to just breakdown and cry but I didn't. Instead, I just went shopping and try to forget about trying so hard for just one second.Ok, so the shopping bit isn't e...

Plan C,D,E,F,G then

Image
So I have been working on Plan A and B since forever and now that one fails after another, you just can't help but feel bad. After all, it's something that I really want. It would be next plan then...there's always C,D,E,F,G and then some. What can I do? I can only try and at least I tried. Meanwhile I won't forget to make the best out of everything that I have. We don't need, don't need, no haters Just try to love one another We just want y'all have a good time No more drama in your life Work real hard to make a dime If you got beef, your problem, not mine Leave all that BS outside We're gonna celebrate all night Let's have fun, tonight, no fights Turn the Dre track way up high Making you dance all night and I Got some real heat for ya this time Doesn't matter if you're white or black Let's get crunk cause Mary's back Photo credit: Eliad Cohen

Anything is a possibility

Image
Going out of the country to experience new things is all fine and good but if you are confined here and get no chance of doing that then the next best thing is to make the best out of everything. One of the things that I don't do often these days are going for shoot. I think I am just too old for that shit, just let the young kids go for it. It's long, tedious and sometimes fun but I've always felt that I got better things to do but once in awhile, going away to weird and funny places can be of an experience. Well, that's me - all about new experiences this year. Can't wait for end of this month to go for one that has this quaint village house next to a paddy field and a river.

Still life

Image
It's not a bed of roses. Nor it's a bird in your hand is better than two in the bush. But I'll make do. And it's ok because there's you.

Drive

Image
Friday again and I have to wake up extra early for work. It's that time of the day when the sun shines its brightest and all you can is to cruise at certain part of the roads and get stuck at other. It's one of those days when you just want to listen to Simply Red . I deleted your number, it was too hard not to call Talk about insights. If that man have never been in love, I doubt that he can write lyrics like that. I just want to drive forever like this.

Crossing the road

Image
I don't know what to write because I don't want to think. Yes, it's a crossroad but there's a big bump or rather now more like a pothole. I was a little crushed by the setbacks and trying to escape by not thinking about it. Still moving and still living. I need to think sooner or later. But later seems to be a better option for now. Yes, a real picture of myself.

We're never ever ever ever ever getting back together

Image
So finally the other day I gave up. Gave up on ever gaining back my old waist size and holding on to expensive and fitting (very tight) clothes esp my nice pants and a couple of shirts. Over the years I have been slowly giving them up, mostly to my father who is a tad smaller than me and he will take up whatever that is not too gay or too youthful while the rest goes to this colleague of mine whom despite being older than me is disgustingly thinner. The problem here is not so much I gained that much weight even though I did but more of the years of abuse that I have done to my body by drinking. By principal I am not too crazy about food and I can even do without it but at the end of the day, no regrets. Even my face is fatter these days. Oh well, it's age. Ain't gonna fight it, just make the best out of it. So keep calm and buy size M.

Real life in box

Image
If there's one thing that I love in my life, that would be documentaries. I remembered back in the days when I really relish to chance to catch any episodes of National Geographic Explorer and the first thing that I made mandatory when I subscribed to cable TV was to get the documentary pack. In fact, I used to subscribe to NatGeo but those were the days...it's all about digital these days. It was during those years that I yearn to visit Egypt - I am a big Egyptology and history freak. I suppose it doesn't cost that much and so perhaps one day I will be able to fulfil a childhood dream. It isn't that safe to visit these days so who knows. It's one of those episodes that I first found out about Varanasi and it felt great to visit that place, finally. Beyond the places to go and see which I do still like, there are other subjects that I like - anything apart from automobile, machinary, guns etc...typical boy stuff, I find it disintresting though airplanes and the...

2012 in recap

Image
I think 2012 for me has been quite interesting and good to a large extend, there's a few low points here and there but all said and done, vital for me to grow as a person and I am still learning, still trying and still not giving up. 1. India - fulfilled some sort of always wanted to do/visit kinda thing but never really thought much about it and it was in a word awesome. Need to think about more bucket list (of course not counting some places that I have visited for the first time like Oz, Samui, NZ etc etc 2. Savings - first year that I see savings in my bank account, despite the retail recap, I did managed to save up quite alot for the future. 3. Humility and kindness - lots of occassion has thought me about humility and I am still along way from being good. Sure, there were slaps on the face but sometimes it's necessary to wake me up. As for kindness, you learn and appreciate kindness from others and in return, return that back. That and being grateful for everything ...

No one is coming to save us

Image
There is something about the power of imagination and human mind that is so powerful that it creates idea and images of what can come. Many a times, these creations centres around the idea of how great life would be if only...(fill the blanks with whatever that you want or need at that moment, be it men, clothes, money etc etc) and just dream the hours if not days away. We often dream and think about how things can better when we are stuck in a rut if only we have someone to take us away, literally in a land far far away and dare we hope, live happily ever after. Like it not, no matter how strong or sensible you are, everyone is guilty at one point or another in their life when they imagined the possibilities of being saved by a knight with PR and credit cards. And it doesn't help when things like this actually happened to some people you know or some people that your friend knew and you just couldn't help but wondered why it has yet to land on your lap as well? I mean, hel...

Can't describe the feeling

Image
It's funny that once you're back, all you could think about are the contradictions. One day you are driving in the open road, with fabulous views of the mountain on the left and vast lake on the right and before you know it, you are stucked in a non moving traffic which is the equivalent of a massive carpark. And then you are stuck back in the same room with no view and thinking to yourself how long do you have to do this? Is it worth it anymore and of course the answer is no. But there's just so much to do and in order not to sound ungrateful you just get the week over and done with and then look forward to soaking in the sun over the weekend. What else can one do anyway? I know for myself, I need to weather through this year with so many plans albeit hanging in the air for next. Then out of nowhere I find myself wanting something. Yes at 30-something there is still something that you wish you have and I realised that it's been so long but I miss the feeling of tou...

National Coming Out Day - My Story

Image
Everyone has a story when it comes to coming out and that's nice. Since it's the National Coming Out Day, thought I would like to share mine, it's nothing special. Maybe so for me because it wasn't anything dramatic or life changing and perhaps thats the way it should be. But it changed the course of my life and I cannot imagine living otherwise. I remembered coming out to a bunch of friends in high school towards the end of the course, I don't remember why I did it but I just did it. It didn't feel weird and after that, it has become easier and I have never live my life pretending to like girls etc anymore. I didn't pretend to be not gay in my college and has always been out at work. I guess cats can go like, yeah well who are you kidding if you don't come out, people already knew - but hey at least I have the guts to live my life the way I want it to be. Alot of people sadly are still in the closet. Everyone lives a different life and with different ...

Weddings Woes

Image
I have to say the amount of weddings that I have attended this year alone and not to mention this past months is beyond appalling to say the least. Now anyone who knows me will know that I don't object to people getting together to bonk legally and so that their offsprings don't become bastards and go to hell. But surely, enough is enough? Maybe it's just the overexposure to the word wedding, wedding, wedding that is making me gag - I usually find them quite sweet and there's always something speacial about each and every one of them - more so if it's a close and dear friend but I think I need a break. I can't wait for this weekend to be over so that I can be done with them for at least awhile. Most weddings are no fun because you can't really dress up or people wouldn't be bothered anyway. Hell, half of the people who attended aren't even half interested to attend - now that's something I find curiously weird, you don't want them to be at ...
