Marvel or myth?

There was a little celebration done over Friday night with people from the office and it was the usual chatter and gossip that took place. If you put more than two advertising people on a table, the likelihood of them bitching about their clients and bosses is high. Get seven of them together and there will all the stories and talk about the industry flowing like the wine. And our topic for that night was about who is leaving to where, what did the bosses do and a more serious and alarming news about the media agencies probably taking over creative agencies soon and putting us out of the job – as if our job and the industry/market isn’t bad enough. The truth is, there has been many discussion about what these media agencies are up to these days but it did strike a chord with me as I have found out that someone I knew from a creative agency is being fished by a media agency to handle a special team that deals with so called creative handling of media. Now if I want to talk about them, w

So there's new all over since yesterday (I was at work at night watching the Press Conference) about the reunion of the world's biggest group - Spice Girls. Now as much as I want to erase my past, it hasnt been all glamour and fabulous. Yes, I used to be nuts over them. Though nowdays I am all about chill and house music, ya'll but I can't forget my roots. It was pink hair roots with bubblegum pop. In a way it is good news but after checking their tour dates (trying to relive my youth days when I was still pretty and naive. Now I am just naive), the nearest venue would be Hong Kong or Sydney so there's no point for me to wet my pants as yet. Furthermore, it's all going to happen only end of this year - God knows what will happen then. In view of this, I have decided to dust my copy of Forever and start playing them all over again. I had a field time chatting with Fei Mui today about the old videos and performances from the Girls. It was so funny. Yes, we are the

Thinking about it again

Weekend is a time I normally enjoy spending at home. Lazing around. In front of the telly. If anyone care to ask, I usually start the day with wan tan mee (dry) on Saturday and pan mee (dry) on Sunday followed by the paper and then TV and afternoon nap. Best of all, I get to catch my cutie designer, Tim Hitchens (he’s not really that cute lar but there’s something sexy about a creative person, his hair and men who wear clothes that fit them and not 3 size bigger) on Day Trip Designer (now showing on Discovery Travel and Living) going around Europe talking about everything furniture and design from the much coveted chaise longue (that’s the French lazychair for you deco dummies and it’s pictured down here) to fabulous Danish designer Arne Jacobsen. You can feel his passion as he speaks about them and get really dreamy looking at his dimples. If one person can be so passionate about furniture, imagine how it will translate to sex? Ahem…that’s what you get for eating wan tan mee every wee

My hedonistic lifestyle

I was actually struggling the day before, trying to search through my pile of credit card receipts to find out the price that I forked out for a bag. You see, yours truly has really gone green (literally)and decided to recyle some of my past looth for cash. Even better than cash converter - I sold this Boss bag of mine at ebay and somehow or another, I can't remember how much I've paid for it. After going through the pile of heartache (God, I spent alot of money), I've finally found the receipt. I bought the bag for RM170 and managed to sell it for the same price. It's not like I used it that often - probably for a few months when I started work in my current agency. For 170, it's quite a bargain and I am all about that. So now this 170 is going down to sponsor the belt which I bought over the weekend. Sigh. Anyway, I've realised that most of the hard earned dough are spent on the below: 1. Starbucks (followed by some Coffee Bean and San Francisco Coffee) 2. MPH

Abit of Cannes

As I have mentioned, this week the advertising world is buzzing with news about who have won what and what would be announced. One of my fav is the Gold Winner from Sara Lee's Roach Catcher. It won two Gold for Lowe & Partners Malaysia (no, they are NOT a law firm). This campaign has been floating around since last year with great reviews everywhere and it came no suprise for making it to the finalist and ultimately winning a metal. I especially like the one with the cat. To me, it was the right and perfect touch. Check out the rest with its simple line - Don't let them settle in or something. If you want to see the bigger scan (you need to in order to understand what they are trying to say), head off to this website . Our agency won 2 silver, which isn't too bad. Not as good as last year though. That's our own finalist and the end of the road for us. Then there's Kancil to look forward to. Hopefully then some of my team's work will win something.

NOT going to make nice

As I was going about and doing my things today, I’ve just realised something that have made me really resentful. Here I am running the show – without anyone to report to other than my MD – I don’t really do that since I was told to only show and tell him anything deemed urgent. On another hand, my boss is nicely leaving me away for 2 weeks for fabulous European fun in Cannes. We did received news that we were shortlisted for the prestigious Cannes Lion award and results will remain to be seen this Thursday. It’s like not really 100% my account and I did tried selling it once – a year ago to the Client without any success. Anyway, that’s not the part of my resentment. When I wanted to leave, part of reasons is that I felt I’ve doubting my own capabilities. Else, why wouldn’t they promote me or raise my salary? Maybe I am not that good. That went on for a year. Maybe I should try harder and I did that. Now that I have resigned, they are opening out the position and offering lots of money

Coach Update No.1

As my 'agent' arrived in LA last week, she has already been pushing my credit limit. So far spent on one more handphone strap (yes, I already have one but I am getting another for those just in case moments) and a wrislet (not for me lar). It was on bargain and rock bottom prices. The belt that I wanted has no sizes left, selling for 59 bucks instead of the listed 75. Damn. Nevertheless, one down...two more to go. Belt and a fabulous tote. Watch this space for updates. There's just so MANY things that I want right now and I don't have the money. New phone, new glasses, new bracelet. Don't forget about the road tax, my laptop loan and my insurance. Oh. My. God.

Thompsonboy will DIE

Yes, well I have finally settled a major thing lately and I am sad to announce that Thompsonboy will cease to exist. I am not talking about this blog but it will be affected in more ways than one. To explain without giving too many details, I have finally put to rest many unhappy things at work and gotten out from it. Yes, I've found myself a new job. Still advertising, just different agency. And pray explain why Thompsonboy have to die...well, I guess he doesn't. Just that now I will be ex Thompsonboy very soon. The name Thompsonboy was very old and given back in 80s within the advertising circle to guys who work for my current agency. Since I will be leaving soon, that makes me an ex Thompsonboy. Talk about the new place, it would be completely different. More responsiblity and I am unsure if I will have time to even update my blog let alone go to the toilet. Yes, it is really bad. The account that I would be handling was and is the biggest media spender in Malaysia so you ca

Appallingly unappealing

So like everyone else in the country I braved going out on Saturday. It is really amazing what school and public holiday can do to the malls. Why is that everyone feels the needs to come out just because of that? As any out about town girl would know, those are the two more horrible thing that could happen if you just want to get somewhere, meet up a couple of friends over drinks and take a slow stroll at some shops. I ended up parking in the depths of the earth in Mid Valley and it was only Friday. Anyway, I was out with Queen A and knowing that everyone will be cramming themselves silly at all the major malls, we’ve decided upon Bangsar V II for a change and to avoid the crowds even though we hardly expect it to be empty. Furthermore, it was yours truly first time there despite all the chances and proximity to that place. Well, I am just busy. It was far from empty and in fact for the parking fee which they charged us, it was no surprising that people opted not to park inside on the
