Life in 40 litre
How you do condense a life of numerous clothes, comfort, accessories and things for your face and hair and stuff? You know the drill. The answer is of course NOT by carrying a 100 litre bag. Even a 60+10 to me now looks and sounds absolutely mad. Disclaimer: I do own a 60+10 and it's heavy to death, top loading which is a hassle to look for things and not the most comfortable when you are lost trying to look for that hostel. I was mad enough to carry one when I was visiting Vientiane on a short half day trip before going back to the airport again to fly off to Luang Prabang.
So back to my new bag - everyone thought I was mad to finally settle for 40 litre even though the 55 is extremely tempting with zip off daybag which is like value for money. But after reading the reviews on this baby, I am convinced that:
1. Front loading bags are the way to go
2. The smaller the better - yes esp for long journeys. If it's short then by all means carry all your shit. You will only suffer for 2 weeks at most, not 6 months
3. More often than not I carry stuff that I don't need or use
But most importantly I think, it's humbling and interesting experiment to see how much we really do need in life. We really don't need alot. If you can pack everything into one bag then you are almost material free. Most of the time, we are tied down by the things that we own. We worked hard for them, pay for them, go on loan for them only to own them to make us unhappy (working on a job you don't like and going in debt).
By all the means this is NOT easy for me - I like to be comfortable and carry all my things with me from extra this to extra that. But if I can do it, I think anyone can.
So, introducing the Osprey Farpoint 40 M/L. Retails for RM350 from Yoon Hin. Sells for RM480 at TearProof (no discount offered). The difference between S/M and M/L is mainly the length of the straps etc etc, if you are tall go for M/L.
