Bag to question

I had the luxury which was roughly one hour during my course of working a couple of weeks to ago to dash over to The Gardens due to a ‘hoax’ text that I received from my bank. I was unsure if everyone gets it (maybe they comb through my credit card bill and see if I belong to one of those shopping freaks segment before they decide to send me the text – Louis Vuitton, check. Gucci, check and check. Tiffany & Co, check). It was of course one of those discounted shit thingy and this time around for Longchamp.

Knowing that I have been wanting to get the Le Pliage bag before it’s oh so vogue now (yes I was THIS close to getting one), any indication of discount or savings is a good thing. But alas, everything on was on sale except for the bags that I wanted. I passed by Coach on my way out from the mall and was atrociously greeted by a beeline of customers trying to get into the boutique and even a longer line trying to pay at the counter. Kinda reminded me of McDonalds and this is the final nail on the Coach coffin for me. So amazing to note that when I was obsessing over it, there was just one boutique in KLCC and now every Jane, Mary and Siti is carrying their monogram bags. I mean I still love whatever that I’ve bought but that’s the end for me. At least no more monogramming. The thing about their bags is that the collection is so vast that you are bound to find something that you’ll like and want be it size and shapes unlike many other brands that releases bags on a seasonal basis. The price is nearly afforadable which inspired the term luxury for the masses.

However I am on a pursuit for a less mass and more classic bag and one in particular that really caught my eyes and heart is the iconic and ‘It’ bag of the moment – Mulberry’s Bayswater. It’s nearly 5 years old now. Yes, some richer baghags complained and bitched that it looked like a cheaper cousin of the Birkin but I don’t think they intentionally copy Hermes. Furthermore it has a more relaxed feel compared to the structured Birkin. And a less hefty price tag too – have yet to find out the cost here in KL but roughly 3K in UK for a full natural leather bag. It was said to be quite heavy but I just love how simple it looks. I can imagine myself rocking it now either to work or just for casual outing. Not too brash and loud.

But I have to really plan ahead to in order to secure finances to sponsor this baby. I mean I gave up on an Anya Hindmarch bag last week and also my order for more Marc Jacobs goodies after serious consideration that things in overall will take a downturn with petrol prices going up and all those world recession shit that they have been predicting. We will all be lucky and still very lucky to have our clients and really, not many agencies are making big bucks these days. It’s all just in the namesake and perceived glamour. Furthermore, there’s next week beach escapade and next month’s overseas holiday to account for, this will certainly take a very backseat for the time being. And add that to a nearly due car insurance and roadtax package. For the time being I guess I can admire this baby from afar or at least in the arms of Kate.

Well, if it was good for Kate then it’s good enough for me. Nevermind the 37’s years of experience in making leather and all of painfully crafted by local craftsman in Sommerset (no Made in China sweatshop shit here) hence makes it one of its kind that will last for a very long time. The absence of monogram and its price tag means it will not be seen on everyone in the streets of KL. I just know my future fashionista nieces will love me and toast to my decadent life as they lunch with this bag which will be considered as vintage chic in the future… provided that I actually can afford it. Oh well!
